Pharmacy First

A new NHS service - Pharmacy First - enables us to provide more treatments than we previously could, without you having to see a doctor. The protocol we follow is strict, so we can only supply antibiotics in certain circumstances, and sometimes only after another treatment has been tried. There are age limits to each condition too which we must adhere to. Rest assured you'll be given the most appropriate treatment for your condition, or be referred to another healthcare provider.

The Advanced service involves providing advice and NHS-funded treatment, where clinically appropriate, for seven common conditions:

earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
impetigo (aged 1 year and over)
infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
shingles (aged 18 years and over)
sinusitis (aged 12 years and over and had for over 10 days)
sore throat (aged 5 years and over)
urinary tract infections or UTIs (women aged 16 to 64 years)

Your GP may refer you to us for treatment for one of these conditions, or you may just come into the pharmacy. Normally we can do a consultation straight away, but if we are very busy, we may make an appointment for you to call back.

As stated above, we are governed by a strict protocol. If we cannot provide treatment for you, we will refer you to an appropriate healthcare provider, which could be your GP, NHS 111 or A&E.
